...pretty sure this is not in Kansas

quick trip to Australia, got back this morning. The first thing was going through immigration and passport control. I hadn't traveled internationally since 2018 probably. Right away in the maze waiting for a passport officer, it's slow. They are under staffed, overwhelmed, and manning about 50% of the positions in front of me. Maybe if Brandon could see his way clear to make it easier for US citizens to reenter the country it might be helpful.

Sydney, a large metropolitan city, with much better climate than San Fransisco....they're identical.

except that one is super clean, people aren't pooping on the sidewalks, the locals are super friendly, there's hardly any cops, but then again theres hardly any crime. city buses trains, trolleys, all seem in great condition, theres no graffiti on them. At least I didn't see any. Homeless people are there, maybe 1 for every 10+ Blocks in any direction. They are generally off to the side and not camping on the sidewalks. Hell they're not camping anywhere I could see. It's almost like they decided that is was something to take care of.

Taxes are high, but when I asked further, no higher than in California. People are helpful. Tipping for meals is at the highest 10% and thats only in more established restaurants. I didn't really see a gap in service other than one place where we had to ask if they had waiters. That was immediately addressed, very politely and food and drinks came right away.

Drinking is the national pastime there as far as I can tell. Bars next to bars, but no one was shit faced. Well, almost no one. I saw this Kawasaki Green ZX12 and figured it belonged to Packa...5th of Jim Beam was the giveaway.

Over all one of the top 5 cities I've ever been to...none of which are US cities now days.

I did the Sydney Harbor Bridge Climb in December 2000; pretty cool view from there, but his is better

Sydney was awesome, as was the little bit of NSW we saw... the city has a great vibe, I would go back in heartbeat.

After the glowing review(s), I was packing my bags....seems like I'm too old and don't really have anything to offer.

How dare they not have open borders...

Do you think maybe I could get there on a tourist visa, just stay and get all the great benefits that AD brought up??

Or better yet, just sneak across and get all the fantastic free stuff??

Should be EZ to just rent a boat and beach it in Tazmania...

As long as they keep Qwik out, they can have a nice country.

It's too bad the continent has become a protectorate of China, where things are also nice and orderly. China sneezes, Australia catches COVID.

Spent a few weeks in the Gold Coast area. Set was about an hour south of the hotel so it was pretty rural. Heard a lot of story's about life outside of the big citys and was more of what people think of the Australia they hear of.

They used the area to be San Diego, was funny to see them pretending to drive on the other side of the road and the passenger holding a steering wheel.

It was fun on days off running around the desert catching animals wishing I could bring them home. Production even rented me a motorcycle to run around on.

15 minute appointment. You’re only allowed one issue at a time. Usually quite a bit of a wait. Unless you have private healthcare and then you have it much better. AD, on this you don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about
Seeing the Aussies wouldn't let your broke down drug addicted alcoholic diseased unemployable carcass anywhere near their health system, neither do you.

Immigration into Auzzyland is a lot tougher than into the US, thats one reason why it's so much nicer there. Yes, lots of Chinese people as mentioned, they're for the most part hard working people who have managed to leave a communist country. They've either paid a lot to get there or they have some skill. It's hard to fault someone escaping a communist county.

As mentioned its got free health care. Speaking to someone who actually works in the health care industry there, it's pretty horrible. If you want actual health care then you pay for it like everywhere else when you want something good. The people who run the free healthcare are bureaucrats who also, as a regular part of administration, monitor the social media of their employees and if you speak out you get fired. The "good" part is that it's free.

Wow cool write up. I wish Cali was like that still. I really can't believe they've let the major cities in Cali turn into one big, messy, homeless camp. So sad and unimaginable.

if you visited San Fransisco, then went to Sydney, then back to San Fransisco....you would be fairly (more?) disgusted with the California political system.

btw, when I said China was a communist country, its actually more of a socialist country as you can own property. Other than that everyone is equally poor unless they have connections to government. If you do have a connection to government you keep your mouth shut or they disappear (also known as Clinton) you

From what I pay for my wife. And yes she is still my wife. And we still communicate. I’m paying about 400 a month for her private healthcare but believe me the socialized medicine there. Sucks
400 seems pretty reasonable. I pay more than that as a young healthy guy.

it varies based on what you want as to quality but, pretty much like the US. An Australian can get everything from free to gold, or platinum level insurance. If I walk into a clinic as a non citizen, I would not receive free health care, I was told it would be a minimum of a $400 visit.

Australians pay 2% of their income for the healthcare levy. In addition to that you can supplement it for alacarte things or basic additional coverage. Aproximetalty 50% of Australians choose to pay more instead of getting the "free" version.

My visit to Stikine in Canada cost $100CDN
The prescription, filled at WalMart, was another $6.xx CDN for 20 pills.

Just a hoser in a motorhome with a problem. A part of the excellent care was because they know I'm tinhead.

My third-world health care (maybe a little better than that- it's consistently ranked in the top-ten in the world) works great. I pay $225 per month for full coverage for my wife and me. She had a bad case of the type-B flu last weekend, and needed to be admitted. She was in a large private room within fifteen minutes of our arrival at the (nice, modern) hospital. My daughter (who sees everything as an adventure) wanted to stay as well, and, as she'd just recovered from the same flu (as usual, she's generally the source of our illnesses), they said it was no problem and she could sleep on a sofa bed in the room.

Two nights admission, meds, doctor visits, whatever, would have been around $800 without insurance- it cost me $60, and half of that was food for my kid (she liked the hospital menu- I don't know what's wrong with her).

Same room, but with a hospital bed instead of the one pictured- I've stayed in worse hotel rooms. No visiting hours either on that floor- come and go as you please:

Yeah......i’ll stick with that nasty socialist health system here.

The wife’s HRT meds are about 4 euros for the month. Her asthma meds and an inhaler total about 10 euros.

My blood pressure meds (2 different pills) are 20 euros for the month.

The epi pens for my youngest cost 14 euros for 2 of them, and her visits and treatments with the allergy doc cost nothing over what we pay out of our SS payment

I can live with that.....

Yep, if you look at the map, it’s a very Mediterranean thing.

You know what the difference between a Spanish mother and Rottweiler is?

The Rottweiler eventually let’s go 😉😂

But it doesn’t change the fact we don’t get arseraped on meds due to our nasty health system 😉
Just gives me an excuse to go down to Baja and get em. And some Feesh Tacos too

Spain is one of my favorite countries. The food, people, history, all excellent.

The economy, could use some help. Unemployment remains high and has for the last 40 years. It's expected to hit 13% by the end of this year.

Still, a beautiful country.

If Qwik had any sense at all, never mind common, the immigration authorities of the other English speaking countries wouldn't turn him away at their borders.
