Kinda big for a calamari plate. Still edible at that size?
Yes- you can eat the mantle. Calamari steaks, or you can cut it into smaller strips.
Can’t eat the tentacles though, they have serrated claw rings for suckers! It latched onto the deck and was clawing as I dragged it across! The beak inside those tentacles was huge too!
These things kill everything all kinds of fish. They are dangerous, you would not want to be in the water when they were around. They shoot up from thousands of feet in packs and attack schools of fish.
- might get a pic of the beak later.

My local Italian restaurant serves the smaller strips and they are spectacular.
The rings they serve at their other location are too greasy, I suspect because the rings tend to hold the frying oil.

And it’s the only inland Naval Submarine Base. They test Sonar there due to the depth.
That is what my uncle did there!!
He was civil service electronic engineer working for the Navy on a barge.
The barge sunk during a blizzard, was never found in the depths of the lake. He retired in the 70's.

Up at Schweitzer ski resort.
That is the north end of lake Pend Oreille in the background, Bayview in at the other end.
Beautiful lake, deep as hell and huge trout!
I thought it was familiar looking. 👍 👍
That is some of the prettiest country I've ever seen.
Farragut state park is also there, used to be home of the boy scout jamboree.

Knew a guy that flew those. In North Africa. Chasing the "Desert Fox."

One thing he told me that sticks to this day...
"When Messerschmidt's are shooting their guns at you, they make the brightest orange muzzle flashes..."
"Not red, not white, but orange flashes..."

Oh yeah, he said the "26" was a "hot rod..."

Other's called them the "Flying Coffin."

That's what brought my grandfather here from the Dakota's. He was stationed at farragut before getting shipped to ww2.
