Hearing protection and reloader.

Natchez has some good discounts on top end scopes.

I have a bunch of reloads that arent the most accurate that I worked up while perfecting my reloading. They'll shoot fine for getting on the paper, and for getting use to how the rifle shoots. They're safe to shoot.

Ill send you a box, free. If its legal. They're loaded Lapua brass, and will be reloadable 7 times. Lapua brass is the best, Hornady is 2nd.

Pm me your shipping address if you want them.

How far do you want to shoot out to? 1000yards ? How much do you want to spend on your scope?
Does it have a Picatinny rail? Maybe a sling.

I believe it comes with a Picatinny rail.
1000+ yards
Good scope without spending $3k.

Vortex PST Gen 2 are pretty good scopes. You can make a sand bag with a sock and sand or other fabric and beans. I like to make data cards the size of business cards and laminate them and attach them to the gun with cord.

I was thinking about an accurate 50 BMG if Biden got elected; it hasn't' totally left my thoughts, although I could a bike or a car for less than $12-$15,000. A few years back, with Hillary as a possibility, ammo was like $6 a round; not sure I want to know what it is now.

If you dont mind a NON FFP (First Focal Plane) scope and want the best I say get this Nightforce. It will be hard to beat this one and its exactly what's on my 338 Lapua. If you need/want FFP then you have to step up to the F1 model and then its slightly over your 3K budget. Someone else may have a different opinion but nobody will argue that anything is better than a NightForce at 3K and under. I have a FFL but cant discounts on NightForce. They are dealer direct no deals through wholesalers

......I like the Savage rifle because of the barrel nut...

...in theory you can install new barrels as they wear out...

...not sure this will be an issue for Cisco'... .!. :D .!.

There was a time when you could negotiate for a nearly brand new Nightforce 5.5-22x56 with NPR2 reticle and rings for 1450 on this very website.

What’s old is new again.

What do you guys typically use to bore sight your 338 lapua rifles, a laser?

Any recommendations, the ones on Amazon seem a bit 'hit or miss'.

I just set up the rifle pointed at a wall, pull the bolt, sight through the bore and adjust to a mark, then sight the scope to the mark.

Then go shoot it at targets from 50 yds out to whatever range you want to zero.

There's a new trend in PRS now of using a micro dot like an RMR on top of your scope to get on target faster. I haven't tried it but I can see the usefulness.

What scope did you get?
I got a 'Vortex FFP 34mm tube 5-25x56mm' for the moment and will probably buy one of the better scopes referenced above in the near future.

Vortex are good scopes. I have one on a .17 wsm and it gets knocked around riding in my sxs and stays dead on.

Shot it yet?

If it's the PST Gen 2 or another model with Japanese glass you might not see a difference with a night force.

Takes effort and practice to shoot without flinching. It does have serious recoil, and its LOUD.

If you have an empty brsss with dead primer practice dry firing it to get the feel of the trigger.

Good hearing protection.
Good recoil pad.
Good bi pod.
Good mechanical rest.

Set up right its actually fun to shoot.

One last thing, the 300 grain bullets shoot better than the lighter ones.

I just bought my first Vortex. It’s a Viper PST Gen 2 1-6. I also just bought a Leupold VX6HD 2-12 and the vortex is super heavy compared to the Leupold. It looks great looking thru it, but was surprised about the weight.
That mount in the Amazon link, I believe that is made by a friend of mine here in town. Good stuff.

Vortex is made in China, the Philippines, and Japan. I believe the Gen 2 PST and Razor models use Japanese glass. They tend to be reviewed favorably against other high end brands.

Is the scope far enough back and is the bipod forward enough?

I read lots of articles and there is a lot of mixed information.

...you should assume a shooting position with your eyes closed and then look at the scope...

...if you need to move your head to get a good sight picture you will know the scope needs repositioning...

...you set up looks fine...

The scope looks pretty far out there. If you shoot from a bench you'll want it closer than if you only shoot prone. The rifle will be more stable with the bipod further out but you should experiment to see what you like.

Depending on eye relief of the scope but looking at it in the pic, it looks like it can go back towards the stock another inch or so. You shouldn t have to force your head forward to see a clear picture.

What Hapo wrote above should fix it
