Funny thing is, ever since Drive to Survive, in a way I've become more interested in the mid-pack rivalries than the front runners

It's a testament to how good that show is because I can't say I've ever felt the same about any series before

And damn straight, Max is difficult to like
I only ever watched the 1st series. Is it worth watching the rest? It felt 'scripted' to me and a bit false...

So will Mercedes bring a zero sidepod W14 to this weekend's race?

Wolf has put a press statement out in the form of an open letter to the fans saying 'sorry we made a shit car last year and continued with it this year and didn't listen when the drivers said get rid of it'. But will it be gone by the weekend?

I think Aston Martin will be hoping it is still there...

I doubt they'll have the same package this weekend. We shall see

Had enough of the media giving a free pass to Hamilton and Russell for their own lack of talent contributing to Merc collapse
A more nonsensical comment you would struggle to come out with. The collapse of Mercedes has nothing to do with a 'lack of talent' from the drivers. The collapse is because of a poor design path and a brain drain of staff to other teams. It is very interesting to watch though and I am really keen to see how Mercedes will (or won't) cope...

Put Max or Logan in that Merc and it would podium every race

No, it wouldn't. The car has real problems and they need to drop the sidepod design as fast as they can. Budget cap and brain drain means they are probably fucked for the rest of the season...

Alonso out-quali's both Russell and Hamilton. Stroll out runs Hamilton lol
It is possible, that with Max starting way back and LeClerc taking a grid penalty, that both Astons can be on the podium and maybe one of them can win. But that RB is fucking fast so it'll be hard work and I can guarantee that MV is not going to be mid pack for very long...

Russell looks to be getting on with the car

Meanwhile Hamilton says ā€œI can’t connect with this carā€

Or, maybe just maybe your best days are behind you

Just STFU and drive

Maybe he has. Or maybe he and the car just don't work. We've seen that in other racers. Albon and Gasly in the RB are perfect examples.
Motivation in both Mercedes drivers seems to be impacted but Lewis moreso than George. But not by much I would say. They both hate the car but George is doing a better job of wringing good times out of it.

I was disappointed but not surprised to see the car at this second race of the season with the zero sidepod concept. That needs to be gone, yesterday. Even if it means hacking up the 2020 sidepod design and clagging that back on...

Oh shut up already about the car

It’s perfectly capable of winning in the right hands

I can’t recall a driver or an example of the media snivelling so much about something that it’s taking away from everything else

McLaren looks to be in genuine distress and nobody is covering that

Watched a team principal presser today and Toto got 90% of the questions. You could see on the others their faces saying ā€˜Why am I here?’

The way it’s going the press will be interviewing Hamilton’s dog Roscoe about how to fix the car

The car may be capable of winning but only in exceptional circumstances, either with George or Lewis.
You are going to have to put up with bias in the press media because Lewis and Mercedes have been headline news for the last 9 years. The McLaren problems will make it to press, I am sure. But they will be overshadowed for the most part by most news coming out of Mercedes. I bet Toto is sick of answering their questions too and could do with the focus being placed on another team...

Aston Martin, and Alonso in particular, is very quick.

Ferrari has not impressed. Good in qualifying trim, not so good in race trim.

Mercedes has not impressed. Lousy on qualifying trim, slightly better in race trim.

Red Bull are in another league entirely.

McLaren is dog shite.

They should call in the FIM to sort things out.

The euros prove once again that they love to stumble over their own laces. Observers are left to marvel at the degree of obfuscation by regulation that goes on. There is a lack of clarity that placing a jack under the car constitutes 'working' on the car.

Yeah, sure, eurotrash assholes.:fuckyou:o

Of course it constitutes working on the car and rightfully so. The first thing you do if you are removing wheels from your car is whack a jack underneath. Until then it's all cups of coffee, staring at the replacement tyre and bitching about how you aren't as young as you uses to be etc etc. The jack signifies the start of work, whether it's the battered pickup truck or an F1 car.

Jack is under the car, work has started...

Chuck in the Ferrari caught & passed Rainbow Sparkle in the Merc like he was on jackstands. Nice footage from the rear view cam on the Merc.
Yeah, that bit where 'Chuck' finished 7th and Lewis finished 5th.

RB have won this season. That is obvious. It'll be Verstappen's 3rd championship and Perez will hound him if he is lucky, but he won't win too many more unless Max is plagued with reliability issues. It's easier to move through the field when there are 3 DRS zones but even so, that car is superb in every single area. High-speed, low speed, top speed, braking, traction, direction change, that RB has fucking nailed it all.

Ferrari have already lost. They were unlucky to have pitted just before the safety car (which really should have been virtual, more show for the crowd). I am not 100% certain but I already think their team boss will crack and fail under the same pressures the last one did. And all that ever does for Ferrari is ensure they never win championships. When they have a winning car then the Team Principle will be safe. Until then, any incoming Team Principle is just inheriting a poisoned chalice.

Aston Martin, Alonso is happy. If he is happy, everyone is happy. All he needs to do is to keep the performance up for Aston and he may even luck into a win this season. But I doubt he can beat the RB head-on. Those cars seem to be as dominant as the 2014-2020 Mercedes, perhaps more so. But God forbid the fun stops because if it does and if the impossible happens and Stroll starts making inroads on him, it will turn sour quickly. I hope it doesn't as I am really enjoying this resurgence from him and the team. I like to see Stroll do well, too. It's cool to see someone who everyone claimed was there because his dad bought the team for him, proving he is worthy of the spot on merit.

Mercedes really shouldn't be ahead of Ferrari on pace with that dog of a car. Both drivers deserve better from the team and they did incredibly well to finish 4th and 5th in such an absolute dog. Lewis seemed much happier on the mediums and he was running a different setup to George. They should have ran the same setup and I cannot understand why they would start Lewis on the hard compound at the start when he has a full fuel load? Surely it would have been better to start him on the medium and move to the hard set when the fuel load drops? We won't see upgrades on the Mercedes before the races hits Europe (Tinhead's spiritual home) and I am not sure the sidepods will change even then but let's see.

McLaren would have placed better if both cars hadn't collected damage and had to pit twice in the race. That hurt their chances of points surely? I am sure at least one of them would have picked up points without the extra stop. They have to do better next race and I am hoping they'll be back in the points next race. Piastri seemed to be determined to prove he is as good as Norris. Fireworks will ensue in forthcoming races.

Alpine got both cars in the points. Impressive considering they missed out on a tyre swap under the safety car. Not a bad show.

Magnussen a point for HAAS. You have to love that...

lol now all of a sudden it is all about the car
No, it's about the match of great car and great driver. But the RB cars are so far ahead of the competition even the best driver in the next best car wouldn't beat them or match them every time...

Remember a year or 2 ago, all that talk of Lewis being G.O.A.T.? I howl these days when Russell beats him, which is often lol!
Well yes, just because he is not doing so well doesn't undermine his achievements. Schumacher is a vegetable and Senna is dead so what is your point here?

You can't have it both ways.

Unless you're Hagrid...

In my opinion, he is not in the same league as Senna, Schumi.

He lucked into the timing with Merc dominance. Had he been in any other teams' car, we would not be discussing him as possible GOAT.
But he did and we are. And Schumi was a huge cheat. And Senna rammed people off the road to get one of his championships. Lewis is a way cleaner champion than either.

And remember that in his first ever year in F1 he came closer to winning the championship than any other rookie before or since, beating his team mate while he was about it. Until last year he had won at least one race every single year since 2007.

I once had a pie but I ate it...

But really

It sure looks like he started to unravel when he started bringing his woke activism to the track

You just can't bring your best when your best is being shared with other causes

He just booted his long time fluffer, too. What's that all about?
Hard to say but it seems they parted on good terms but we don't get to know the full story, good or bad. He has always done his own thing and even when he was nailing championship after championship he did his life his way. Maybe it is time for a refocus but no matter where his head is, that car needs work...
