Right- they can decline to hear a case even if they're petitioned- if the evidence doesn't stand up to scrutiny, they won't accept it, even if the source is Trump's team- it has to have merit.You are correct in that this is a mess if you will. The Trump Team is running out of options daily. Unless something is materially provided and hopefully this will be done in the next few days it is going to be tough. What many people do not realize is just because the Trump Team wants to have the SCOTUS hear the case they may in fact decline and that is even if it gets to them in time which is more doubtful as each day passes.
Hate it had hoped the Trump Legal Team would have had more evidence but maybe need to start spinning up the impeachment wheel of justice for old creepy Joe. You know it is coming!!
As far as impeachment goes, unless the Reps take control of the House, it will never happen, so, at a minimum, he'd have a full two years plus probably another 6-12 months to get the process going even if the Reps take over in 2022 and decide to give it a shot. Likewise they'd have to take over way more Senate seats to get enough votes to push it over the top (they'd need 67 votes).
