I know there are a lot of you here, and, like me, you were likely pretty bummed the way the series ended (with much of the plot unresolved). Well, HBO finally confirmed they're going to make a new 'Deadwood' movie with the original cast- looking forward to it- it was one of the best shows on TV.

if it makes you feel better......Longmire was cancelled with unresolved stories as well. Netflix bought it and revived it with original cast. You wouldn't even know the difference.

I might have written the ending a bit different, but they did a pretty good job wrapping up the show, so it's certainly possible Deadwood can do the same.

I really liked 'Justified'- I've got so much stuff in the current queue that I don't know when I could get to 'Longmire'...

The Wire was amazing but Deadwood is about half as many episodes (or less) and far more entertaining.

Longmire is just way better than it has any right to be.
Sounds and looks like a boring show but it keeps you interested.

Looking forward to the reunion of Deadwood for a movie.
Wouldn't hate it if it spun off into a similar show.

Deadwood was cancelled 2 seasons short of the projected end. Gregg Fienberg and David Milch were the Executive Producers and they always fought with the studio about money. HBO walked on set one day and pulled the plug on the whole shebang. They have been trying to get it back on since then.

Deadwood is, without a doubt, the best HBO series ever made. I can't wait for this...
I concur.

As usual, you are an unmitigated prat. The Wire is the greatest HBO series.
The Wire had one lame season, and that puts it out of consideration for the BEST. I’m trying to remember what season sucked, and I think it was the news room one. They are all blending together. Carcetti as the mayor stunk too.

is overrated
I never watched 'Longmire', but it sucks when a show you like ends without resolution- it's like not being able to read the last chapter of a book.

Al Swearengen is based on the real guy of the same name:

With a name like "Swear Engine" it's no wonder the word Fuck was used as much as it was.

I enjoyed the show when I saw it but, I wasn't really into watching TV back when it was on regularly.
Something about working, fucking and flying around on my motorcycles was more funner...

...only just started getting very interested in teh interwebs then too.
I blame it on dialup connections of 9600 baud and shortly after 14.4k of the day.
I could ride out and find pussy quicker than porn would be in downloading.
When it got to the blazing speed of 33.6k I found this fucking place.

I blame it all on you fucking fucks.

meh..there are HBO shows better than the wire if we are talking all time here.

sopranos for instance...

and in terms of popularity/audience..game of thrones makes the wire look like an weekday afternoon talkshow.

Those indian actors really nailed it, Night Horse, Malachi, and to a lesser extent Mathias were a pleasure to watch.

Hell, even Starbuck's character didn't annoy me.

Didn't like Mathias, he may have been the one character I couldn't stand watching.

There were several of those annoying people in The Wire, which WAS a great show.
But too many annoying people in it.

'The Wire' was great for how smart it was- there probably haven't been any shows made that were better-written (the fact it was relatively slow-moving compared to what was on network TV at the time meant it had to be- the writers were fantastic). 'Deadwood' was much the same (they also were both excellently-acted).

HBO has gotten bigger since those shows were first aired, and the budgets have gotten HUGE in comparison- now, there's not only high-level acting and writing, but much grander visual storylines (can't beat GoT in that regard, and the coming final season is basically going to be seven full-length movies to end the series).

TV has changed a lot since the early 2000's.

Just read that the Deadwood movie premiers the end of this month.
Like, next week'ish.
I may have to re-watch that entire series now.

I just watched it- I wouldn't say 'great', but it was fun seeing the actors reprise their roles. At less than two hours, they couldn't go too deeply into the plot (and the dialogue was more Shakespearean than usual), but it was a good return to Deadwood for fans.

It was a good two hours. I miss that show.

Dan Dougherty was a little difficult to recognize. Great to see E.B. Farnum at his greasiest.

I'd like to move back to South Dakota and live around the Deadwood area. I still have relatives there.
