Yeah, my driver's license came due this year. And fortunately a friend of mine gave me a heads up having just got his. Then I was able to return the favor and let another friend know so he could be prepared for his lic renewal. Now it looks like having a REAL ID will help me though the ammo buying process too.
I figured it was a "Pay me now, or pay me later" sort of thing" may as well geter done.

There are now 15 states run by socialist Democrats that allow illegals to get drivers licenses.
Mark my words the push will be on to allow them to vote soon.
I'm not disagreeing with you on that point. Just saying that the point of the "real ID" isn't to give them a license to drive or the right to vote.

It's all part of Agenda 21...

REAL ID attempts to mandate a standardized process and format for all state drivers’ licenses to achieve increased security. Most importantly in this standardized process, REAL ID mandates a certain picture quality. A footnote issued by the Department of Homeland Security establishes this quality as compliant with the ICAO Document 9303 biometric format. The global body setting this format, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), is a specialized agency created under the United Nations. Biometric data can be produced from a simple digital photograph of this quality by running the picture of a person’s face through a software program which measures and analyzes the unique, personally identifiable characteristics of that face. The process results in a unique numeric code which identifies a person according to facial measurements. You read that correctly. A unique number or ‘code’ is developed from an algorithmic formula which converts a digital biometric sample to biometric ‘face print’ data. Under REAL ID biometric facial recognition technology, you become a number literally worn on your face – a number which is read by computer, tracked by surveillance camera, and distributed worldwide. Clearly, this international standard provides global compatibility of American citizens’ biometric data collected through REAL ID

I have to renew next month.. but NY has now made drivers licenses available to illegals so the lines are 6 to 8 hours long.
Do it by mail- I just renewed my NY license from Thailand- the only effort you need to make is having a doctor sign your eye test form.

It took me 2 trips to the DMV....I didn't know about this on the first trip....came equipped on the 2nd trip....yeah, it's easy to get pissed about this. But IF IT IS USED to truly identify citizenship, then hell yeah!

Yup, you're correct- I just checked, and that can't be done by mail. What a PITA.
chances are that you're flying with a passport anyway so it's not something that's really gonna slow you down....as long as you have your passport. You're not going to be able to fly domestic though with out your passport but I'm sure you're probably already aware of all this.

FL implemented this a couple years ago... when I was doing some registration work at the DMV... I asked if I could renew my license right then... yup! Even though it was a little under a year before it expired. Has all the "real" id requirements too.
And best of all... says Im a "safe" driver :fu: lol <------ means no tickets!

I believe you can get a passport card now... it counts as a "real id" and good for 10yrs. Easier to carry than a book.

They never try to push me into that real ID card. Last month I got a new regular license and they are a real downgrade to what they used to be. Black and white picture now, but they increased the size of your birthdate for quick age checking.

as long as you don't have to fly it's not a big deal. You can probably negotiate your way on if you really need to. One of the keys is to yell Allah Akbar when they start to pat you down. Shooting them a wink also helps.

Everything is gonna be biometric pretty soon anyway. If you travel in and out of the US you're gonna get scanned, period. Pretty soon it will be for groceries and gas.

Yeah yeah. . . burly and I got ours earlier this year. I ain't askeered.
I forget the details, but I showed up with a passport, current DL, Ambulance Attendant's License, CCW....ALL PHOTO ID's.

Said I was still short an ID.

They allowed my wife to fax over a utility bill or some other form of NON-PHOTO ID.....and proceeded to process it.

Fought me regarding the military stamp on my DL.....I actually had to show the bitch AND her supervisor on THEIR DMV form that a COPY of my DD-214 was all that was required after them arguing I needed the original.

I'll tell you some day the BS they try to pull regarding titles.....took 6 months to get my last title. (wanna buy a clean 2013 Honda CRV??...LOL!!)

Did my online pre-reg with the DMV, once done they give you a confirmation code that you take down to your DMV with all the other stuff that is needed, Veteran card, birth Cert, etc.

I tired to do a online registration appointment with my DMV in Santa Clara and earliest is Jan 16 2020 and San Jose and Los Gatos is March 2020 so I'll just do a walk in.

my world travel was extensive

if i can't drive there... oh well...

.
You do realize that all cars have a double-secret-black-box, AKA DSBB, that is not related to the well known regular black box.

The DSBB not only tracks your every movement, it also scans your brain waves and no amount of tin-foil can prevent it.

Alex Jones will have an upcoming show that'll blow the lid off the above human injustice.

Happy travels in your car.....just be careful what you think.

I was thinking just the other day how they need to make the license bureau rigmarole an even bigger hassle than it already was.

Just an update to confirm the above info (and, as this thread is pre-shutdown, the rules in the US may have since changed, but I'll put it out there anyway)- I recently had to renew my passport, and I opted to get a passport card as well (for another ~$30)- this is compliant and accepted just like a 'Real ID' certified drivers license (and it's the same size) by the TSA for domestic travel within the US (obviously a passport book is required for international flights). I was able to get it done by mail (that's actually the only way to renew a passport at the moment- no one is allowed in the US Consulate here unless it's an emergency). At least there's a way to avoid the DMV. Some sort of compliant ID is gonna be required from October 1st, 2021, so there's no big rush, but the card is valid for 10 years just like a passport book, so it's good for a while.

Turnaround time from mailing my application to receiving the card was 10 days.

I didn't want /or get it.
I renewed online and will get the same license I always had.

Some places I go require a passport, so I carry it on all trips - the New DL wouldn't help me in that area.

They just want your photo for facial recognition.

I am at work, and can't read all this commentary, but the real ID is nothing more than a nationalist ID with the state of residency attached.

So, wear your mask. 🤣 Facial recognition people must be losing their minds. LOL fuck 'em.
Kali lost their minds when people would walk into a bank with a baseball cap on, made a big stink about it.

I've gone in there wearing a pair of sunglasses and a baseball cap, It freaks them out. Almost every bank robbery photo you see is a man in a baseball cap wearing sunglasses.

The passport card I got uses the exact same photo as my passport book, so they already have your pic if you have a passport- it's just a small version of the main info page of your passport book that satisfies 'Real ID' requirements, and it fits in your wallet and is easier to carry. I'd much rather carry a small card than my passport book given the chance, and I can't get to the DMV to upgrade my license- this is just an easy mail-in option. I may never need it, but I was renewing my passport anyway so I got one.

I'm not posting a pic of mine, but this is an online example:

I got a Deal ID a couple months ago. Used my current d/l, my passport, and I think my mortgage statement for the ID's to get it. They took a new picture whike there. I got a temporary card, and the ID came in the mail about 10 days later.

It was easier to do it by mail as far as the passport card went- I sent in my nearly-expired (it was good until the end of December, but I needed more validity to extend my current Thailand residency visa) passport with a pic of the required size/background (just a regular pic from a local mom-and-pop shop that takes photos) along with the online form and payment. I'd imagine they bust your balls more for an upgraded drivers license.

It wasn't bad. My main issue was my d/l was expired by a week because the SoS offices were closed for Covid until June 1st. I did mine in a small town office because the peaceful non-Antifa protesters burned the SoS office 10 minutes from my house.

Also, I couldn't do mine by mail because I required a vision test. When I got mine though, they waived the test because they couldn't sanitize the eye tester.
