Anyone near Phoenix who has a wheel balancer? I need a white GSXR wheel

My replacement eBay wheel has introduced a rhythmic shuddering into my ride.
This Facebook guy says he's got a perfect condition front wheel for my '05 GSX-R1000.
Anyone have a wheel balancer and is nearby to check it out? Want to make sure it spins without any hitch or wobble.
He's asking $225 shipped.

Do you need to borrow a runout gauge Eddie?

Did you put new bearings in your Ebay wheel?
.
I sent a video to LE05BUSA LE05BUSA and he said it was within spec.

Yeah, put brand new bearings in there too.

I've got the balancer. Let me know what you want to do.

Oh Man, I may need to lean hard on you if you're available?
Did you start your new job yet or are you still on semi-permanent vacation?

what happened with the last wheel issue, how was that resolved?
I screwed up my original wheel by drilling one size too large when trying to repair the fucked up bolt that needed extracting.
Mechanic I took it to said he couldn't fix it and I'd need a machine shop.

I decided a replacement wheel would cost about the same as a machine shop repair.
So, I bought one off eBay. Seller promised it was straight. It was not.
I've balanced it three times and still have a rhythmic vibration.
Smooth.... bump-bump, smoooth..... bump-bump, smooth..... bump-bump.

Geez
I'm working, but I can find some time. Let me know what's going on.

S.C.
I appreciate it, Scott!
If possible, I'd like to send you the money and if you could pick up the wheel and test it on the balancer to make sure it's straight, no wobbles or anything... then ship the wheel to me.
Or he can ship it to me, but it's a FB transaction so I wouldn't have any protection if he decided to take the money & run.

He's trying to get me to buy those fairings too.
Asking a pretty decent price!

How about I bring the balancer to his place when going for the purchase? I can check it there. If it appears good, I'll grab it.

How far off is the new front wheel? Suzuki says it can be something like 2mm out and still be in spec. I've seen more and not felt it when riding. Are you sure the tire is seated all the way around?

Mechanic installed the brand new tire.
Said the wheel looked "80%". Wasn't impressed.

It's still in spec. I'd be more worried about the brakes than that wheel.

Look on the bead of the tire, there is usually a line that will follow the wheel. If it's not seated the line will disappear intoto the wheel.

Well, now that you guys mention it.
I do have concerns about the brakes.
The rotors and pads are all brand new.

But when I pulled the wheel off to re-balance it, I noticed ridges along the bottom of the pads where they meet the very bottom of the rotors.

Newer R6 calipers on GSXR rotors is a popular aftermarket "upgrade" for this year GSXR.
And that's how the bike came to me.

Gotta pop them apart and clean them after you check and see you don't have too much fluid in the m/c

Brand new MC and fluid also. I'll double-check the fluid level but I'm pretty sure I got it right.
The ridges... well, that's probably not a good word for it.
Scrapes. But on both sides.
Had me wondering if the calipers just weren't a proper size for the rotors.

But I decided to let it all break in because the calipers had been working great before.

Crazy to think brake pads might cause rhythmic shuddering but I can find out quickly enough by removing the pads.
Not excited about taking a test run with just rear brakes but gotta do what you gotta do.

Just open the pads so they are not touching the rotors, at least that way they are there in case you need them. A lot of the time you can just press your hand against the side of the caliper real hard and they will open just enough. If they don't then loosen the caliper bolts and try again, tighten the bolts before test riding it.

Don't go down any hills. Like really steep momentum. If you've ever experienced a bike moving with the only brake you have locked at slow speeds and aiming down hill. Its cute.

I know this is a dumb question but did you put the spacer back in-between the bearings when you replaced them?
Been there with burly's SV rear wheel. Took a few miles before it destroyed the bearings.
Hope there's not an issue with your front brakes Eddie. Other than the calipers they're brand new.
Not sure if I like the look of the way the pads are breaking in against the new rotors. Looks kinda' rough and scratchy.
Without that bearing spacer inside the front wheel (if it is in fact missing), I feel like it might do weird shit exactly like you're describing.

Someone tell CZ, that the forks being pinched together by improper axle assembly, pinching down on the two lower fork bolts and cranking in the axle and loading the forks will do that. So will fork seal sticktion, or how ever you spell it. Makes the front bounce. You can loosen the two lower axle pinch bolts and ride it, mash the brakes a few tymes and see how it feels. Checking fork seal sticky ness, is hard for someone who doesn't work on the stuff allah tyme to determine. You could put a GoPro camera (if you can set one to work) on the fork to view the seal area and see if they a moving constantly. The should always be moving up and down a little, always! Put some marks with a Sharpie on the forks for reference.
Or a data logger with suspension pots.

GROOVES was the word I was trying to think of last night.
Small grooves at the very bottom of the pads. Just one pad on each side.
You can just feel it if you run a pick over the pad surface.

Calipers may not be new but I did rebuild them with a new seal kit & grease at the same time.

Yep, the bearing spacer is still there!
Part # 2

If I remember right, I ensured it had "just enough" slack that the spacer could still spin.

Will try to rule out the pads as the source of my shudder later this morning.

Thanks, folks.

Check the rotors where drilled, make sure there's no high spots
I don't think the grooved part of the pads got high enough to reach one of the drilled out holes but I'll double check.
Running a pick along this section didn't expose any conclusive ridges. Maybe, maybe not. It did seem a little rough though.

Okay, I pulled the caliper pistons all the way in and then went for a test ride without touching the front brakes.
No change in problem. Still have a rhythmic shuddering.

I replaced my clutch right around the time I started to notice the shuddering over the last couple weeks.
But I still get the shuddering with the clutch pulled in.
So, I don't think my DIY clutch job has anything to do with it.

Eddie, did you bed those brakes?

scottcolbath scottcolbath thank you but I'm not going to by the PHX wheel after all.

Just took the bike over to my mechanic. Turns out he was able to fix my original wheel and helicoil it.
So, he'll swap out the tire and wheel for me.

He said my rotors looked fine but he'll check that while he's in there.

Thanks, yeah checked the chain. It's got just enough slack to barely touch the bottom of the swingarm.
Which puts it within Suzuki specs.

Got the bike back from the mechanic with the original wheel back on it.
97% of the vibration is gone!
Might still have a little bit occasionally, here or there.
It's hard to tell because the roads here are so bumpy and the shuddering was barely noticeable to begin with.
I'm fucking tuned into it now though and every bump in the road means doom.
