People have been analyzing the video and are calling bullshit

Using distance = velocity x time

The distances between very visible medians on the run are known and claims are the time between the them doesn't add up to the displayed speed

Same when slowing down the vid to measure the painted road line dividers

And again when looking at the Koenigsegg record run overlaid with the tartar run

Hmmmmmmm

The gearing is the most damning evidence, IMHO.

If the trans ratio/rpm/tire size came into play where it wasn't a possible scenario for a top speed world record wouldn't have the other manufactures with skin in the game disputed it right from the get go, even before the car took ever to the track?

The main reason is because until the SSC video, it wasn't known in what gear the run would be made.

The speed alleged would have been possible in the 2nd overdrive (7th) but not in 6th according to the linked video....

But the video has been out for some time. The guy in the video said 7th gear wasn't really an option. You would think Bugatti or other hyper car players would call shenanigans right off the bat with a scientific formula showing that combo couldn't post those speeds🤷‍♂️

I hear you.....

It could also be argued SSC hasn't defended themselves either.

In Ford vs. Ferrari, the FE 427 exceeded its redline....and we know Hollywood never lies...lol!!

It's either outright deceit (doubt it) or incompetence (likely)

The LONE GPS gear maker they used is a relatively unknown, and no official world record keeper was engaged, which is suspect on its own

All analysis points to a run in the 280 mph range it seems

The damage is mounting and SSC needs to come out with a statement defending the run...or admitting to a mistake

Incredible that SCTA wasn't there. I don't think there were any roadside timing lights to go through either. What the actual fuck kind of record is this. I'd love for it to be genuine, but I'm leaning toward the serious doubts side at this point.
Looking forward to SSC's response.
I'm sure they're in damage control mode!

As for the gear ratio, it is possible that they have a transmission with non-standard gear ratios.
Will a standard off the shelf trans even have the capability of withstanding that much power?

As for the rest, SSC, what do you have to say?????

Checked their twitter account and nothing has been posted since 10/19

The fact they wouldn't do a standing start drag against the Bug, and now this...at this point, there is too much bullshit surrounding this car for anyone to take them seriously

The MotorTrend piece looks like garbage journalism

Perhaps they're petrified they fell for what's looking to be a scam?

"And then, of course, Guinness World Records will examine the data and perhaps certify it as a valid world record. "

Yeah, because data can't be doctored?

I would think the role of Guinness is to be onsite, using their own gear and not accepting a mere thumbdrive of telemetry

Have any other super car manufacturers called out ssc on this?
You figure they could damn near calculate a top speed based of specs, no?

It's a moot point, because it is a car with a gay name. Why is an American car company naming a car after a New Zealand lizard? I had to Google it.

It's a profound display of a lack of leadership that could be used as a case study in MBA programs

The longer SSC lets it fester, the worse it will get

As DEWETRON distances itself from this debacle, SSC needs to make a statement that they done fucked up

Excerpt...

"Despite the information published on the website of SSC North America as well as on several related and non-related YouTube channels, DEWETRON did not validate any data from world record attempts or preceding tests. Nobody of DEWETRON’s employees was present during the test drive or involved in the associated preparations. Since the results of measurement data highly rely on the right setup, on the regular calibration of the systems and sensors in use as well as on many other parameters, we are not able to guarantee the accuracy or correctness of the outcome. As of this moment, DEWETRON did not receive the measurement file of the test drive. As a result of the absence during the test drive paired with the missing data, DEWETRON is not able to make any further statements about the world record attempt under question.

...

Therefore, we again want to highlight that DEWETRON neither approved nor validated any test results. No DEWETRON employee was present during the record attempt or its preparations."

It appears that the run may be valid.
SeeThis.

Here is their input on the gear ratios not supporting th he speed:

What gearing did the car have, are the figures people have quoted correct?
“No, the gear ratios [people have talked about] are incorrect. The correct ratios/speeds, utilising the 2.92 final drive ratio, for the top speed model Tuatara with an 8,800rpm rev limit are as follows:
- 1st Gear: 3.133 / 80.56 MPH
- 2nd Gear: 2.100 / 120.18 MPH
- 3rd Gear: 1.520 / 166.04 MPH
- 4th Gear: 1.172 / 215.34 MPH
- 5th Gear: .941 / 268.21 MPH
- 6th Gear: .757 / 333.4 MPH @8,800 *
- 7th Gear: .625 / 353.33 MPH (Estimated max @7,700RPM in 7th gear)
“Oliver [Webb, the driver] is travelling at 236mph when he shifts from 5th to 6th at 7,700rpm (which tracks almost exactly to gear ratio data) and he pushed close to the top of 6th achieving 331.1 MPH at 8,600rpm which tracks with our theoretical of 333.4mph @ 8,800rpm.”

What about the original, unedited video ... let me guess, the hard drive / SSD / SD card / USB / Cloud Storage failed!

..... will run again in the "near future" lol

Yup, they done fucked up. Dude looks wrecked

I feel for the guy

The real apology owing in all of this is from big media that pounced on the youtubers that did the homework that they should've done themselves

To the end, Motor Trend can get fucked :fu:
