    Ken here from HomemadeTools.net.

I know this thread is an old one, but thanks for the link!

To celebrate our 20,000th homemade tool, we made a new ebook featuring our top 50 homemade tools. You guys are welcome to it for free:

What is it this time, a virus?

  14. Default Re: Cool website for homemade tools

I'm not downloading that on this ipad. Too many weaknesses to malware. I'll wait till I get home and look at it on my Linux machine.

What I really need is a way to get the oil filter off of a 4.6 without needing two more joints in my arm.

We've never posted spam or perpetrated any other sort of online evil. The ebook is what it appears - just a collection of some of the best tools our contributors have posted to our forum. We thought people might be interested in checking out the book, free of charge (and ads). The response has been almost universally positive.

Take a chance; take a look. The world isn't as dark a place as it might sometimes seem. Not everyone is a scammer or a bad guy.

Thanks for posting that up, Ken..

Austin, the sky isn't falling - it was a link to a legit .pdf and there was some interesting stuff.

    Tell that to these victims

    http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/...orn-ransomware

But yes I am planning on viewing the pdf on a safe computer after a virus scan. Not to say the author put a virus in it however a hacker could recompile the pdf.

Keep in mind I'm still stinging from an amazon identity theft event. And a more recent theft from my checking account via ach transaction I never authorized.

So, telling me the world is all rainbows and puppy dog tails is a waste of time.

I do hope to get some ideas from the book.

Rainbows and puppy dog tails? Not hardly. I've been online for over 30 years, am one of the most cynical people you're ever likely to meet, and know much better than that. Even so, it's disturbing when the knee-jerk assumption is that I'm a "bad guy". I believe that it's possible for a reasonable amount of caution to co-exist with civility, even online.

Leary is what you might call the majority here.

    Civility? lol

Just the same, don't take anything personally on your first pass through here because,
if it was/is intended has a personal attack on your character there will be no doubt in your mind.

If you start spinning fast from the start it'll just be an invite to see how fast and for how long you can keep it up.

If we distinguish between badass and bad guy, I'm all over it.

I'm definitely a problem solver - of all sorts!

I started to go down that path with a set of original Triumph exhausts off a '69 Bonneville I was working on, but I wound up deciding that they were too rusted out to be worth the trouble.

First got access to Bitnet as a college student in '84. Been messing with computers since the '70s (starting with the TRS-80 Model 1 - 4k and a cassette drive!).

Yeah, it's endless. I get a kick out of seeing all the different approaches to solving similar problems, not to mention all the left-field stuff. I spent the morning solving a wiring issue on my current car project. I think I got it, but I won't know for sure until the engine is installed and I can power up the ECU with all its connections in place. Fingers crossed.

    Love the puppies!

Do you need someone to show you how to post pictures? On this forum posting about a car or bike project without attaching a photo of said project is a bannable offense.

Unless it's a gender reassignment photo. Posting that would be a bannable offense.

  43. Default Re: Cool website for homemade tools

Fair enough! I can handle the photo posting, though I don't have any of this morning's work. As a consolation, here's a recent pic of my mostly complete interior.
