Thread: Anyone else using a new HAAS? Question.

  1. Default Anyone else using a new HAAS? Question.

My new job has me on a brand new HAAS mill with another on the way. My question, how do I disable the safety switch? The older mills I've ran, you could always run with the door open. With some of these setups, I need to get my head in there so I can see whats going on. This new control won't let me override the door setting.
The new control has a key on the side that enters set up mode. In this mode, you can open the door, but the travel stops and the spindle drops to 750 RPM. I can only run an edge finder at 750 instead of the 1250 I prefer.
If anyone has a suggestion, I'd love to hear it.

See if there is a way to unbolt the safety switch from the door and leave it connected. Did this to my Okuma's, you have to manually trip the door switch on power on but after that it is good for the day. Sort of a bitch on mine to reach in where the switch is, so hope for your sake it is a easy place to reach.

Settings, Page down twice. Door hold override. switch to ON.

Make sure you have ability to override settings. This is controlled by paramter 73 i think... (this parameter allows the user to change settings.)

Sorry, I just read the entire post...

You need to set parameter 73 that allows the overrides to take effect.

Im not certain its 73 but its one of them...

The latest software version comes default to not allow user changes at the panel while parameter 73 is in effect.

Holy shit that is one hell of a detailed answer. Who knows that sort of thing off the top of their head? This is one more reason I love this place so much.

This setting is no longer there. The key in the side is what controls this now, but then puts it into limp mode.
I'll double check on that setting on monday though.
This new control is entirely different than the other haas controls.

I think cncprops is correct, going to have to remove the switch and override it like he said.

C'mon, there might be a good reason not to stick your head in while the fuckin thing is runnin.

You've obviously never spent much time setting up a CNC before

It is there... There is a parameter in there that needs to be changed. It is not a value, its oneof the 1,0 parameters to have off or on...
Let me check into this and I will have an answer for you Monday.
There is a way to do this without mechanically rigging the machine.

Youll need to unlock it first with the key...

    Setting 51, Door Hold Override

Parameter 57 bit 7, Safety Circuit

Parameter 57 bit 31, Door Stop Sp

Parameter 586, Max Door Open Sp RPM.

Kirk - Do you have any new 2013 and up Haas' on the floor?

My new 2013 VF2 has the door switches with no over rides. I believe they took away the ability to do setting 51.

I can't work without being in there from time to time.
